From Monday, the Italian resort island of Sardinia will tighten entry rules due to the spread of the corona virus. Arriving passengers are required to have a negative corona test result for no more than 48 hours.
This follows from a new decree that the president of the autonomous region, Christian Solinas, signed on Friday evening. Alternatively, travelers can report online that they have passed a negative corona test.
Those arriving without a negative test result can be tested on the island within 48 hours, but must remain in quarantine at home pending a test result. There are some exceptions, for example for aircraft personnel. In addition, travelers must complete and submit an online form prior to arriving in Sardinia. From Monday, a mask is required on the streets if it is impossible to maintain a distance of one meter.
With the new regulations, the popular resort island in the Mediterranean is responding to the recent rise in the crown. While there were virtually no new infections in Sardinia in July, cases increased in August with the arrival of thousands of tourists. On Friday, 65 new cases were reported in Sardinia, and the total number of those infected is now 1,337.
