The current President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko leads the presidential elections in Minsk. His candidacy received 64.49% of the vote. This is evidenced by preliminary data published on Thursday, August 13, on the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus.
According to the CEC, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya won 14.92% of the vote in Minsk.
On August 9, presidential elections were held in the country. Lukashenko, according to the Central Election Commission, received 80.08% of the vote, opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya was supported by 10.09% of voters. Tikhanovskaya’s headquarters did not recognize the results of the vote.
After that, people who disagreed with the election results began to take to the streets. They are opposed by the security forces. In the clashes, there are casualties on both sides.
