There are fears that the Belarusian authorities will accuse opposition candidates in the elections of organizing the riots in Minsk, said Anna Krasulina, press secretary of presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
“We understand that the government can put forward such a thing tomorrow. The authorities start violence, and they always blame others, “she said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
At the same time, Krasulina stressed that Tikhanovskaya is now at the headquarters, adding that in Belarus “there is now no safe place.”
According to information from Sputnik Belarus, the headquarters are barricaded for fear of detention.
Earlier, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya appealed to the security forces with an appeal to stop the violence. At the same time, she asked her voters to prevent provocations and not to give law enforcement reasons to use force. The presidential candidate recalled that the police and military are also part of the Belarusian people.
According to a number of media outlets, in Minsk, security forces use tear gas, water cannons and stun grenades to disperse protesters. The capital’s medical services announced the hospitalization of the wounded protesters.
On the evening of August 9, protests by opposition supporters began in Minsk and other cities of Belarus after the presidential elections were held in the country. According to the preliminary results of the voting, the current head of state is gaining 81.35% of the vote.
The headquarters of Tikhanovskaya noted that they did not trust this information, and promised to appeal the results of the vote if violations were found.
