According to media reports, several thousand people have gathered in the center of Minsk, some throwing lighted flares towards the security forces. Several people were detained. Claps were also heard from the direction of Independence Avenue.
“The police used flash-noise grenades at the protest action in Minsk. There are wounded among the protesters, they are covered in blood, they receive medical assistance, ”the message says.
The headquarters of the presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said that the use of force against the demonstrators would be a mistake for the authorities.
On August 9, presidential elections were held in Belarus. According to preliminary data of the CEC, after receiving information from closed polling stations, the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko is gaining 81.35% of the vote, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya – 8%, the third place was taken by the “candidate against all”.
