In Cologne, two cases of infection with a mutated strain of coronavirus, first discovered in India, have been identified.
Two cases of infection with the mutated virus were announced by the city administration of Cologne. These cases are the first in Cologne, but not in Germany. According to the Robert Koch Institute, this mutated strain has previously been detected in several tests taken in Germany.
In the city on the Rhine, for the past three months, all positive tests have been checked for mutated strains. Thus, it was possible to identify altered strains, discovered for the first time in the UK, South Africa and Brazil.
The Robert Koch Institute reported that the Indian variant of coronavirus B.1.617 may be more contagious. In this case, humanity may be threatened by a kind of supermutation, which can quickly spread not only in India, but throughout the entire planet. At the current moment, the virus has been detected not only in Germany, but also in Belgium, Great Britain, USA, Australia and Singapore.
There is also a risk of infection with the Indian strain, both for people who have already had the coronavirus, and those who have been fully vaccinated. However, scientists are in no hurry to sound the alarm. For this, B.1.617 has not been sufficiently studied.
