At the moment, the Indian variant of SARS-CoV-2, which has a double mutation, has not been identified in Russia. This was announced by Kamil Khafizov, head of the scientific group for the development of new methods for diagnosing human diseases at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor.
He noted that the absence of this strain was demonstrated by the results of monitoring the genetic variability of coronavirus infection in Russia, which is carried out by the laboratories of the institutes of Rospotrebnadzor.
“At the same time, several isolates were previously sequenced that have the aforementioned mutations separately, but belong to other strains of the coronavirus,” Khafizov added.
In early April, the first case of a patient infected with an Indian variant of the coronavirus with a double mutation was detected in the vicinity of the American city of San Francisco.
