Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the United States deliberately does not mention its plans to deploy new nuclear weapons. According to her, Washington is silent about “tectonic shifts in the field of European security caused by the approach of NATO’s military-strategic infrastructure to the Russian borders.”
This is stated in the commentary of the Foreign Ministry speaker. This is how she reacted to the report “On Observance and Implementation of Agreements and Commitments in the Sphere of Arms Control, Non-proliferation and Disarmament” promulgated by the US State Department.
Zakharova argues that the US claims against Russia for arms control have no real basis. According to her, they serve as a cover for the destructive actions of Washington itself. As a result, the Foreign Ministry called the US State Department’s approach to the problem of non-strategic nuclear weapons (NSNW) cynical.
Zakharova also drew attention to Washington’s “stereotyped accusations” against Moscow of violating the Open Skies Treaty (OON). According to her, they are intended mainly to “cover their own destructive actions” in relation to the agreement. And Russia is also perplexed because of the “passages from the report” on the “unswerving implementation” of the United States of the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms. Also surprising are Russia’s accusations of non-compliance with the moratorium on nuclear tests.
