Suspicions of the United States’ involvement in the assassination attempt on President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko are unfounded. This was announced on April 21 during a briefing by the White House press secretary Jen Psaki.
“I can confirm that there is no reason for this,” she said during the broadcast in Twitter.
Earlier that day, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that one can assess Lukashenka’s policy in different ways, but organizing a coup d’etat is “too much!”
On April 17, the President of Belarus announced the arrest of a group of people who were preparing an attempt on him and his children. The head of the republic’s KGB, Ivan Tertel, said on the air of the ONT TV channel that the conspirators had drawn up a plan and started implementing a plan to physically eliminate Lukashenka and his family members, and also tried to organize an armed rebellion in order to seize power.
On April 18, the FSB showed an operative video footage of the arrest of Zenkovich and the political scientist Feduta. A criminal case was initiated against Zenkovich, leader of the opposition BPF Party Grigory Kastusev and Feduta.
