Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted a law giving men the right to take maternity leave. 269 people’s deputies voted for the document with the required minimum of 226 votes. Now the law must be signed by the President of the country, Volodymyr Zelensky.
The initiative allows both parents to exercise their right to parental leave until the child reaches the age of three. In addition, one parent can receive partially paid parental leave.
In addition, a one-time paid leave is introduced at the birth of a child with a duration of up to 14 calendar days.
At the moment, in Ukraine, a man can go on maternity leave only if the child’s mother has gone to work or is in the hospital for a long time.
