Despite the fact that the incidence rate has slightly decreased in recent days, having fallen to 127.0, the number of seriously ill patients treated in intensive care units has increased sharply. For the first time since early February, intensive care doctors have reported more than 4,000 coronavirus patients in need of assistance.
On Easter Sunday, 4.051 patients were treated in intensive care units, as it became known from the message of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) in the daily report on the coronavirus (as of April 4, 12.15). This means that the number of patients in intensive care units per day increased by 133 patients. 55 percent of patients infected with Covid are hooked up to invasive ventilators.
Intensive care doctors and health experts have been demanding strict isolation in the country for several days in order to interrupt the third wave of the pandemic, reduce the number of infected and thereby ease the tense situation in hospitals. If the current trend continues, “in four weeks the departments will be so full that we will reach the absolute limit of our capabilities,” Christian Karagiannidis, Academic Supervisor of Divi, told the Rheinische Post.
