President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday, March 23, by his decree put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of Ukraine to extend the sanctions for a period of three years against a number of individuals, companies and media, including from Russia. This was reported on the website of the Ukrainian leader.
“To put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated March 23, 2021” On the application, cancellation and amendment of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) “, – the decree says.
In total, the sanctions were extended against 81 companies and 26 individuals.
The sanctions imply the blocking of assets – a temporary restriction of the right to use and dispose of owned property; preventing the withdrawal of capital from Ukraine; refusal to grant and cancellation of visas, application of other bans on entry.
The decree comes into force from the moment of its publication.
On March 19, it was reported that Zelensky put into effect the NSDC decision to extend the sanctions against two Russian banks – a subsidiary of Sberbank and Prominvestbank for three years.
Earlier on the same day, it became known that the NSDC imposed sanctions against a number of former officials, including ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. This decision was demanded by the country’s security service. They noted that in 2014 these persons “helped the special services of the Russian Federation in the occupation of Ukrainian territories”, they were also accused of organizing criminal activities of power structures and violating the rights and freedoms of citizens “at a” referendum “in Crimea.”
