The first trial batch weighing 8.5 tons – 321 carcasses – has already crossed the Finnish border. One of the largest reindeer-breeding cooperatives of the Murmansk region “Tundra” was able to carry out the first such transaction, since at the end of last year it received a certificate of certification of products on the European market.
The document, or “euro number”, gives the right to export products of its own production to the countries of the European Union. It should be noted that the procedure became possible with the support of the regional government.
In accordance with the agreement signed with the Finnish company Lapin Nahka Oy, the agricultural enterprise plans to export up to 50 tons of venison in 2021. The organization plans to bring the export volume up to 100 tons per year.
By the way, the reindeer processing company Reindir received a similar permit in February of this year. The company plans to start export deliveries in 2022.
“These prospects will allow organizations to expand distribution channels, significantly increase revenues and profitability of production, as well as provide employment and stable wages for their employees. And the Murmansk region will become the second subject of the Russian Federation, after the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, supplying venison to the countries of the European Union, ”the regional government said.
