The dynamics of the spread of COVID-19 in Russia is decreasing, which makes it possible to make predictions about the abolition of the mask regime by the end of spring. Scientists-virologists told about it on February 7.
According to Zoya Skorpileva, candidate of medical sciences, immunologist at the European Vaccination Center, a number of factors must be observed to cancel the mask regimen. Among them – the presence of the formed herd immunity and vaccination.
“The number of cases should drop sharply,” the RBC specialist quotes.
Alexei Agranovsky, a virologist, professor at Moscow State University, Doctor of Biological Sciences, called the situation with coronavirus not bad at the moment. In his opinion, Russia will be able to avoid the traditional surge in the incidence in early spring.
“If the current situation continues, then we can say that in the summer they will limit or even remove antiquated measures,” he said.
Allergist-immunologist Vladimir Bolibok allowed the cancellation of the mask regime in April or May. He suggested that the Russians will not wear masks in the summer, but a new outbreak of COVID-19 is not excluded in the fall.
Earlier in February, the representative of the World Health Organization in Russia, Melita Vujnovich, said that the mask regime and social distance would have to be respected by society even after the lifting of severe restrictive measures, Gazeta.ru writes.
On February 2, immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov said that vaccination would eliminate the need to wear protective masks. In January, the former chief sanitary doctor of the Russian Federation, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science Gennady Onishchenko noted that Russians should use masks in public places even after the end of the coronavirus pandemic.
On January 28, the head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, announced that in 2021 the mask regime in public places could be canceled. On average, about 20-25% of Russians developed antibodies to coronavirus infection, she stressed.
