There are prerequisites for the third wave of coronavirus in Russia, however, the announcement of the period from May 1 to May 10 as non-working days can help to resist the deterioration of the epidemiological situation, said on Friday, April 23, virologist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, head of the NSU laboratory of bionanotechnology, microbiology and virology Sergei Netesov …

“The decision to let everyone go on vacation from May 1 to May 11 can help to at least partially prevent the third wave, as there will be fewer non-traditional contacts (work, shops). But the main opposition to the third wave is increased vaccination and strict adherence to anti-epidemic measures, “he said in an interview with Izvestia.

Earlier on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova and Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, supported the proposal to make the May holidays continuous due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As the head of state noted, he will sign a decree on the extension of the holidays later on Friday.

According to Alexander Safonov, Professor of the Department of Personnel Management at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, this measure will affect small and medium-sized companies, banking and insurance.

“Businesses will have to find funds to pay for work at an increased rate if they decide to attract employees to work these days,” he stressed.

Proposals to extend the May holidays have been discussed several times over the past month. So, a day earlier, the head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov said that the number of holidays in May is specified in the Labor Code and it is impossible to extend the holidays without amending the legislation.

As Nilov recalled, the authorities have the right to postpone days off in order to make the duration of the weekend convenient for citizens. However, the extension of the holidays requires compensation for business, and such a step will lead to a serious burden on the economy.
