The United States has officially invited Russia to the inauguration of President-elect Joseph Biden, which is scheduled for January 20. This was announced on Monday, January 11, by RIA Novosti with reference to a representative of the Russian Embassy in Washington.
According to him, the invitation was received and “it is planned to participate at the ambassador’s level.”
Initially, it was reported that only members of Congress and their guests would be admitted to the inauguration – no more than one for each, that is, slightly less than 1,100 people in total.
On January 8, the current US President Donald Trump announced that he would not be attending the inauguration. On the same day, Biden announced his participation in the ceremony of Vice President Mike Pence.
On January 7, the US Congress approved the election of Democrat Joseph Biden as President of the United States. The meeting was held amid protests in Washington, when Trump supporters broke into the Capitol building and caused riots.
There were clashes with police, during which dozens of people were injured on both sides. Four people were killed in the riots, and later died a seriously injured police officer. After the incident, the Democrats called for the removal of the Republican from power.
