US President Joe Biden announced the beginning of the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan on May 1, Izvestia TV channel reported.
“We will not do this in a hasty manner, but will act responsibly, thoughtfully and safely. We will carry out the withdrawal in full coordination with our allies and partners. The Taliban (an organization banned in the Russian Federation – Ed.) Should know: if they attack us during the withdrawal, then we will protect ourselves and our partners using all available means.
It is planned to complete the withdrawal of 2.5 thousand troops by September 11 this year.
Biden said the United States had accomplished its mission.
US troops entered Afghanistan about 20 years ago after the September 11, 2001 attacks. The military campaign has become the longest in US history. According to media reports, more than 2 thousand American soldiers were killed during the conflict.
