The arrest of Sergei Tikhanovsky, the husband of the leader of the Belarusian opposition Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, has been extended for two months. This was reported on September 30 in the “Country for Life” movement, which is headed by Tikhanovsky.
“Today it became known that Sergei Tikhanovsky <...> was added a day – he received an additional two months. There was no court hearing on this issue, ”the movement’s Telegram channel says.
It is noted that at the end of the new term, Tikhanovsky will be under arrest for six months, which means that he must either be released or charged.
Sergei Tikhanovsky was detained in Grodno on May 29 after a picket in support of his wife’s nomination as a presidential candidate. Now he is in the Zhodino pre-trial detention center.
The activist is accused of preparing actions that grossly violate public order. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus noted that during a search at Tikhanovsky’s dacha, $ 900 thousand were found.
Later, the Investigative Committee of the republic announced the initiation of a case against Tikhanovsky on the facts of calls for violent actions against law enforcement officers and preparations for mass riots, writes RIA Novosti.
Mass protests have not subsided in Belarus since August 9 after the presidential elections in the country. According to the Central Election Commission, the incumbent head of state Alexander Lukashenko won them for the sixth time. Since that moment, protest actions of dissent have continued in the country, Tikhanovskaya and most of her associates left the republic.
On September 23, Lukashenka was inaugurated at the Minsk Palace of Independence. However, the authorities of Germany, Slovakia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia refused to recognize him as the president of Belarus.
