Three refugee checkpoints will open on Monday, February 22, on the border of the Syrian province of Aleppo, so that refugees can return home from militant-controlled areas.

Sergei Shkerin, a representative of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties (CPVS), said that the points are located in the cities of Abu-Azeidin, Seraqib and Miznaz. They are guarded by the Russian military.

The pass will be available to residents of Aleppo, who left their native settlements several years ago during the hostilities, and are now in tent camps in the Idlib de-escalation zone. It is noted that people live in extremely difficult conditions with a shortage of food, fuel and medicine.

Refugees returning home will be checked against an electronic database so that members of illegal gangs cannot enter Aleppo. The buses with the Syrians are escorted by the Russian military police.

On February 8, through the efforts of Russian military specialists in eastern Syria, the work of the crossing was resumed, which connects the provinces of Deir ez-Zor and Haseke. This “humanitarian corridor” will allow many refugees to return home.
