The US is seeking to ease tensions with Russia, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said in an April 26 briefing.
“We believe it is critical to attract [Россию] to accountability for those actions that are unacceptable, as well as a large part of the world community. With regard to measuring the effectiveness of these measures, our goals are to reduce tensions in relations, to speak directly when we have concerns, to take action when necessary, ”said Psaki at a briefing that was broadcast in Twitter…
At the same time, said Psaki, the United States does not consider sanctions as the only tool in building relations with Russia.
On April 15, US President Joe Biden signed a decree imposing new sanctions on Moscow. The restrictions affected 32 legal entities and individuals from Russia. Also in the United States announced the expulsion of 10 employees of the Russian diplomatic mission in Washington.
The White House noted that the Biden administration “made it clear” that the US “wants stable and predictable” relations with Russia, but will defend its national interests.
The next day, Moscow announced retaliatory sanctions, which provide for the expulsion of American diplomats, a ban on the entry of a number of high-ranking US officials into the country, etc.
On April 22, Jen Psaki announced that the United States reserves the right to impose new sanctions on Russia. She added that this right is also enshrined in a “presidential decree.”
