A combined trauma from an explosion and shrapnel wounds caused the death of a five-year-old boy in the outskirts of Donetsk in the village of Aleksandrovskoye, Liz Trossel, official representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, said on April 8 following a visit by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine to the place of death of a child.

UN representatives spoke with the relatives of the deceased boy and, together with representatives of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic in the Joint Center for the Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire, examined the scene of the incident.

“The information gathered during the visit will serve as the basis for further analysis of the boy’s exact cause of death. At this stage, we can only confirm that he died from an explosive combined injury and shrapnel wounds, “RIA Novosti quotes UN representatives.

On April 6, representatives of the OSCE special monitoring commission registered in their report the death of a child after an explosion in the Aleksandrovskoye settlement in Donbass. At the same time, as a result of whose actions the tragedy occurred, it was not indicated.

On April 3, the people’s militia of the self-proclaimed DPR reported that a child born in 2016 had died as a result of an attack by a Ukrainian drone on the outskirts of Donetsk. The boy was in the courtyard of a residential building in the Aleksandrovskoye settlement when a drone dropped an explosive device on the area. The Investigative Committee of Russia opened a criminal case into the death of a minor.

The deputy head of the DPR people’s militia, Eduard Basurin, blamed Gennady Shapovalov, the commander of the 59th brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, for the death of the child.

Since 2014, Kiev has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup and the new government in Ukraine. The settlement issues are being discussed in the Minsk and Normandy formats – with the participation of Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany. Despite the adoption of an agreement to end the conflict, shootings between the Ukrainian side and Donbass continue.
