Oleg Shein, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs, positively assessed on Friday, April 23, the decision of the Russian President to make the weekend from May 1 to May 10 inclusive.

According to the deputy, the order of the head of state “corresponds to public culture.” Russians have always wanted the May holidays to be inseparable.

“Government decisions must intersect with the desire of society. We can only very highly appreciate the decisions made by the president, support them, ”the RT parliamentarian is quoted as saying.

Earlier on Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a meeting with the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova and Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, supported the proposal to make the May holidays continuous due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to the website kp.ru.

As the head of state noted, he will sign a decree on the extension of the holidays later on Friday.

Proposals to extend the May holidays have been discussed several times over the past month. So, a day earlier, the head of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans Affairs Yaroslav Nilov said that the number of holidays in May is specified in the Labor Code and it is impossible to extend the holidays without amending the legislation.

As Nilov recalled, the authorities have the right to postpone days off in order to make the duration of the weekend convenient for citizens. However, the extension of the holidays requires compensation for business, and such a step will lead to a serious burden on the economy.

The Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko proposed to study and discuss the issue of postponing part of the New Year’s holidays to May.
