Russian skier Alexander Bolshunov should be nominated for a state award for winning the overall World Cup. This was announced on Sunday, March 14, by a member of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Dmitry Svishchev.
He expressed his congratulations to the athlete and added that the skier had achieved an excellent result, despite the difficulties.
“Despite the attacks on Russian sport, the man gathered his will together with the whole team and the federation and achieved success. I think that this should be noted at the state level, I propose to present him for a state award, “- said Svishchev in an interview with TASS.
Earlier on the same day, Bolshunov was awarded the Big Crystal Globe for winning the overall World Cup. The award ceremony took place in the Engadine, Switzerland.
However, despite the first place in the overall standings, Bolshunov was unable to win the 50 km race, which took place earlier on Sunday. He finished in sixth place.
The winner was the Norwegian Simen Kruger, the second came his compatriot Hans Holund, the third – the Swede Jens Burman, then the Norwegian Johannes Klebo.
