The document approved by the European Parliament (EP) calling for sanctions and a review of relations with Russia is not a resolution, but a report on the work done to the American lord. This opinion was expressed on Thursday, April 29, by State Duma deputy Ruslan Balbek.

“And what is written in it, they will not dare to execute,” the parliamentarian said in an interview with RT.

Balbek stressed that it is no secret to anyone that the European Parliament is “subject to the mania of Russophobia.”

According to the deputy, the European economy cannot do without Russian energy resources. “Yes, and in the difficult coronavirus time for European business to abandon the Russian market is very, very painful. So, I think, everything will remain as before, ”the deputy concluded.

Earlier on the same day, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, as well as disconnecting Russia from the international SWIFT interbank payment system in the event of an aggravation of the situation in Ukraine. 569 deputies voted for it, 67 against.

The EP’s resolutions on international issues are declarative in nature, according to the website 360tv.ru. At the same time, other institutions of the European Union (EU) should listen to the opinion of the deputies.

On April 28, the European Parliament proposed to disconnect Russia from SWIFT and abandon oil and gas “in the event of continued aggression in Ukraine.”

In turn, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the country has a basis for creating its own analogue of SWIFT. The minister clarified that there should be a guarantee against damage that, in theory, could be additionally caused by third parties.

Since 2014, Kiev has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup and the new government in Ukraine. At the same time, the Ukrainian authorities blame Russia for the current situation. Moscow has repeatedly noted that it is not a party to the internal Ukrainian conflict. The settlement issues are being discussed in the Minsk and Normandy (RF, Ukraine, Germany, France) formats.
