The Moscow service “Social Monitoring” became the bronze winner of the “Oscar” in the field of innovations – the Edison Awards, which is dedicated to new technologies. This was reported on Friday, April 23rd, on the official website of the mayor and the government of Moscow.

The service was ranked third in the Accessibility and Transparency subcategory. The first place went to the information project of the USAFacts website, which collects detailed statistics on the spread of coronavirus in the United States. In second place is a development from Saudi Arabia.

The press service of the Moscow Department of Information Technology noted that “Social Monitoring” has become a revolutionary project for Moscow. It was implemented in a short time on the basis of the existing IT infrastructure of the city, the service made it possible to quickly respond to the new threat caused by the spread of the coronavirus.

“The use of Social Monitoring and other technical means has been helping the capital for more than a year to contain the spread of COVID-19 and control the burden on the healthcare system, as well as to protect the most important thing – the lives of citizens. The high appraisal of the international professional community underlines the importance and relevance of such decisions not only for Moscow, but also for other megacities, ”the press service of the department said.

It is noted that the reliability of the application has been confirmed by Russian experts in the field of information security, as well as experts from Google and Apple, who are required to test applications before uploading them to the store.

“Social monitoring” is used by Muscovites who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, but who are being treated at home, as well as those who live with the sick.

If it is not technically possible to install the application, the Moscow government provides smartphones for free for the duration of treatment or compliance with the isolation regime. Since April 2020, residents have received more than 51,000 such devices. Some of the smartphones were provided by the project partners – large equipment distributors.

The service has been used since April 2020, during this time more than 600 thousand users have registered in it.

Over the past day, 8,840 patients with COVID-19 have been identified in Russia. In total, as of April 23, 4,744,961 cases of coronavirus were detected in the country in 85 regions. Over the entire period, 107,501 deaths were recorded, 4,371,214 people recovered.
