Attempts to prevent the commissioning of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline are illegal, said on Monday, April 5, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin.

“Attempts to put a spoke in the wheels at the stage of putting it into operation and during its operation are illegal. We presume that the new gas pipeline will be operated in accordance with the current legal regulations. The politicization of this issue is dangerous and only harms the normal development of economic cooperation, “RIA Novosti quotes him.

On April 1, the operator of the Nord Stream 2 (SP-2) construction project, Nord Stream 2 AG, announced that foreign warships, planes and helicopters had become more active in the SP-2 construction zone. The company notes that such actions are clearly provocative. This, in turn, poses a threat to the project.

Construction of SP-2 is 95% complete. Nord Stream 2 AG has laid 2,339 km of pipe length. It was noted that at the end of January 148 km of the gas pipeline remained unfinished, of which 120 km – in the waters of Denmark and about 28 km – in the waters of Germany.

On March 4, the Danish Maritime Administration emphasized that the construction of the SP-2 will be carried out in the territorial waters of Denmark until the end of September 2021.

Nord Stream 2 is being built from Russia to Germany along the Baltic seabed with the aim of direct and reliable gas supplies to Europe. Its length will be 2,460 km. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The USA, the Baltic states, Poland and Ukraine are against it.
