One of the surviving sailors, who was part of the crew of the dry-cargo ship Arvin, sunk off the coast of Turkey, spoke about the wreck. A video recording with his commentary was published in Twitter Ukrainian Ambassador to Ankara Andrey Sibiga on Sunday, January 17.
According to the surviving sailor, the bulk carrier was covered by a large wave. Onboard there were 12 crew members. At the moment, the victim is in the hospital.
Sibiga left a comment on the recording that the video was provided by the local authorities of Bartin province. He specified that the Turkish authorities are providing all the necessary medical assistance to the victims.
“Our citizens are now in the Bartyn State Hospital. Their health condition is satisfactory. Search and rescue operations continue, ”she commented in Twitter press service of the Embassy of Ukraine in Turkey.
Earlier it became known about the rescue of six crew members of the dry cargo ship Arvin. The death of one person has been confirmed. According to Rosmorrechflot, the condition of the six sailors rescued from the dry cargo ship is satisfactory.
Governor of Bartin province Sinan Guner said that the emergency services of Turkey are carrying out a rescue operation, which is complicated by bad weather conditions.
The Turkish authorities have named bad weather conditions as a possible reason for the crash of the bulk carrier.
Guner said that 13 crew members of the dry cargo ship Arvin are citizens of Ukraine. He added that the ship was sailing under the flag of Palau. Rosmorrechflot noted that two crew members are Russians. According to the agency, the owner of the vessel is a Ukrainian company.
