Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, co-chairman of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Yuriy Boyko, commented on the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the possible expansion of the Normandy format to resolve the conflict in Donbass.
According to the deputy, such a statement will not have a concrete continuation due to the fact that it is not coordinated with other countries participating in the negotiations.
“Before making such statements, it was necessary to communicate with the member states of the Normandy format and ask if they agree,” Boyko said during the Rada meeting, which was broadcast by the Parshy Nezalezhny channel on YouTube.
He also asked Zelenskiy about the position of the other participants in the “Normandy format”: Germany, France and Russia.
On April 27, the Ukrainian leader said that in order to resolve the conflict in Donbass, another format could be created in parallel to the Norman one with the participation of “powerful players” who express a desire to help Ukraine end the war.
He also pointed out the need to change the Minsk format or cancel it, and also called on the UK, Canada and the United States to take a more active part in the diplomatic process on this issue.
To this, the Opposition Platform – For Life party emphasized that with his statement on changing the Minsk format, as well as refusing to negotiate with the leaders of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR, the Ukrainian leader signed for the inability to resolve the conflict in Donbass.
Since 2014, Kiev has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup d’etat and the new government in Ukraine. The settlement issues are being discussed in the Normandy and Minsk formats – with the participation of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France.
