The Ministry of Education recommends that schools not work between the May holidays. This was announced on Tuesday, April 27, by the head of the ministry, Sergei Kravtsov.

“We recommend that schools do not work, only kindergartens and duty groups work as needed,” he said.

Duty groups will be organized in kindergartens during additional weekends from May 4 to May 7, the minister added.

Earlier this day, the Deputy Head of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia Dmitry Afanasyev announced additional vacations in early May for students.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on non-working days between the May holidays on April 23.

The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, approached him with this proposal. At a meeting with the head of state, she explained that the decision on days off could allow “to make the epidemiological forecast more stable,” with which the president agreed.

The State Duma supported the decision of the Russian leader to make the weekend from May 1 to May 10 inclusive. As noted by Oleg Shein, a member of the committee of the lower house of parliament on labor, social policy and veterans affairs, the order of the head of state “corresponds to public culture.”

This year, May 1 and 9 fall on weekends, and additional holidays were originally announced on May 3 and 10. The days from 4 to 7 May were officially working days. Thus, citizens will rest for ten days on holidays. The first working day will be Tuesday, May 11th.
