“We believe that the dialogue between the military is important, first of all, in order to avoid misunderstandings and incorrect assessments of actions. Incorrect conclusions can come at a cost to security. The military know this firsthand and therefore are interested in preventing crisis situations, ”he said.
According to Kshimovsky, the main department of international military cooperation continues the dialogue with the military departments of Western countries, despite the cooling of relations with these states. First of all, interaction takes place in the areas of strategic stability, global and regional security, arms control and the prevention of incidents in the course of military activities.
On February 25, Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov said that Russia was in favor of resuming contacts between heads of general staffs in the Arctic states.
On February 20, Antonov said that the Russian authorities had already sent requests to the administration of US President Joe Biden to organize the first contacts for future interaction.
On August 28, 2019, the head of the NATO Military Committee, Stuart Peach, held a telephone conversation with the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov. The parties discussed military transparency in Europe and agreed to continue contacts.
