During a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and French leader Emmanuel Macron paid special attention to the escalation of tensions in southeastern Ukraine. This was announced on April 26 in the Kremlin.
It is noted that the French side was the initiator of the conversation.
“Vladimir Putin drew attention to the provocative actions of Kiev, which purposefully exacerbates the situation on the contact line, ignores the provisions of the Minsk agreements. The need for strict implementation by the Kiev authorities of the agreements reached earlier was emphasized, ”the message says.
It is also emphasized that Macron informed Putin about the results of the April talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In addition, the leaders of the two countries discussed the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh and stated that the situation remains calm.
“At the request of Emmanuel Macron, Vladimir Putin commented on the current state of Russian-Czech relations, emphasizing the absurd nature of the accusations made by Prague against Russia and the actions taken,” the Kremlin added.
Earlier that day, the French media wrote that during the conversation, Macron called for “reducing tensions with Ukraine.” Also, the French leader expressed concern about the state of health of the Russian blogger Alexei Navalny, who is now serving a sentence in a colony.
Prior to that, on March 30, Putin, Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the situation in eastern Ukraine during the talks in the format of a video conference. The heads of state confirmed that there is no alternative to the Minsk complex of measures adopted in 2015 as the basis for resolving the internal conflict in Ukraine.
At the same time, it was noted that Putin, in a conversation with Macron and Merkel, gave clarifications on the situation around Navalny.
