The International Olympic Committee (IOC) does not recognize Viktor Lukashenko as the new president of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus. This was announced on March 8 at a press conference by IOC Communications Director Mark Adams.

“The IOC Executive Board today introduced temporary sanctions against the NOC of Belarus. In particular, not to recognize the election of Viktor Lukashenko as the new president of the NOC of Belarus, as well as Dmitry Baskov as a member of the executive committee of the NOC of Belarus, ”reads a statement posted on the IOC website.

On February 26, it became known that the eldest son of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Viktor, was elected president of the NOC of the republic.

Viktor Lukashenko replaced his father in this position, who had been the head of the NOC since May 1997.

Earlier, Lukashenka’s eldest son was in the post of the first vice-president of the NOC of the republic. He also served as Assistant to the Head of State for National Security until March 1, 2021.

Alexander Lukashenko at the end of February denied rumors about his intention to “transfer power” in the country to his children, in particular to his eldest son Viktor.
