People who suffer from chronic diseases of the lungs, heart, as well as certain mental disorders should consult a doctor about wearing a respirator. Marina Veldanova, director of the Health Development Center of the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday, February 10, in an interview.
At the same time, the expert noted that WHO recommends wearing a respirator to protect against coronavirus infection, first of all, for medical workers. We are talking about FFP2 respirators, which almost completely do not pass the virus. However, they have several disadvantages.
“It is hard to breathe in such respirators, especially for a long time. Therefore, for people with chronic diseases of the respiratory or cardiovascular system, as well as for people with certain mental disorders, it may be dangerous to wear such respirators – this should be discussed with a doctor, ”the specialist emphasized.
Veldanova clarified that respirators do not fit well on children, as well as people with a beard or mustache, so the protection will be worse. They also do not protect others from an infected person, because he does not exhale air through a filter. In addition, respirators need to be adjusted to fit the face, which requires certain skills.
On February 7, a therapist of the highest category, toxicologist Aleksey Vodovozov told how to properly care for reusable masks, and in what cases they can harm.
