The European Commission (EC) has officially filed a lawsuit against AstraZeneca for violating a contract for the supply of vaccines to the European Union. At a briefing in Brussels, Stefan De Keersmaker, a representative of the European Commission, said that certain provisions of the contract were not met, and the company was unable to provide a credible strategy for restoring supplies on time.
Now it is important for the EU that there are fast deliveries of a significant number of doses. They are eligible for EU citizens under a contract for pre-ordering a vaccine. In this regard, the European Commission filed this claim on its own behalf, as well as on behalf of the 27 EU countries.
Under the contract, AstraZeneca was supposed to deliver 120 million doses of the drug to the EU in the first quarter. However, in reality, less than 40 million doses have been delivered.
