Therapist Alexander Barvinsky shared the rules of healthy home fasting on the scale of one fasting day on the water.
In an interview with the Zvezda TV channel, published on April 23, the expert clarified that such a practice, without observing certain rules, can lead to deviations in health.
To prevent this from happening, the doctor advises “not to catch up” the next day. This means that after a day of fasting on the water, you do not need to eat much, you should give preference to the right food.
“Spending one day a week on the water is a completely normal story, which will not lead to an overdose by fasting and will only have a positive effect on health,” Barvinsky said.
At the same time, he warned that medical fasting is not recommended for people with health problems. Among the contraindications, the specialist named type 1 diabetes mellitus, Crohn’s disease, as well as severe underweight. According to the doctor, the body itself will give a signal to a person if such medical fasting does not suit him.
Regarding the three-day fast, Barvinsky noted that this practice is more complicated and is suitable only for a person who is well acquainted with this topic.
“If you do not think over a way out of hunger, if you do not take into account the contraindications, then a three-day fast can negatively affect health,” he said.
A day earlier, it became known that intermittent fasting can harm the body. Endocrinologist Elena Maslova said that this method changes metabolism, which can be critical for many people. In particular, such fasting is not recommended for diabetics, as well as for those who suffer from chronic diseases of the liver, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract.
