By braiding girls with too tight pigtails, parents endanger them, dermatovenerologist and trichologist Yulia Nagaitseva told radio Sputnik.
She noted that schools have certain requirements: girls must be with their hair taken away, while mothers often braid their daughters in pigtails at night in order to reduce the time of getting the child to school in the morning. According to the trichologist, it can be harmful.
“Constant pulling, pulling (hair. – Ed.) Leads to trauma, the follicle goes into the resting phase and its atrophy can occur. Due to prolonged tension, so-called traction alopecia (hair loss on certain parts of the head) may occur. “
According to Nagaitseva, girls who are involved in dancing, gymnastics, swimming, ballet, music are most often affected by this form of alopecia, “where tight tails, bunches are required, and this is done day after day, year after year.”
This form of alopecia is not treated therapeutically, the trichologist warned. The specialist told how to protect the girl from alopecia.
“If you do your child’s hairstyles for school, after school the hair must be undone or pulled back into a lighter ponytail. It is advisable to loose your hair at night, ”she said.
In July, dermatologist, trichologist Tatyana Egorova named two main causes of hair loss. According to her, this is stress and lack of iron in the body.
