The general director of a shipyard in Murmansk was arrested in connection with the embezzlement of funds during the repair of the cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov. This was reported on Saturday, March 20 by TASS, citing a law enforcement source.
“Arrested for two months by the decision of the Oktyabrsky District Court of the city of Murmansk,” – said the agency’s interlocutor.
The general director of the 10th Order of the Red Banner of Labor Shipyard was detained earlier on Friday. He is suspected of embezzling about 45 million rubles, which were allocated to the company for the reconstruction of a heavy aircraft carrier.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, investigative actions and about 10 searches were carried out both at the plant itself and at the places of residence of a number of its management.
The cruiser “Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Kuznetsov” is currently being repaired and modernized after a fire that happened on the ship in December 2019. Then two servicemen were killed, another 14 people were injured. A criminal case was initiated into the incident.
In the summer of 2020, the general director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) Alexei Rakhmanov noted that intensive work was launched on the aircraft carrier. Its transfer to the Russian Navy is scheduled for 2022.
