The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Syria said that the country condemns the transfer of US and NATO forces to the Russian borders. This was reported on Sunday, April 18, by the Sana agency, citing the agency.
The Syrian Foreign Ministry believes that this could create “a serious threat to international peace and security.”
“An official source in the SAR Ministry <...> stressed that these steps of the American escalation are a reflection of gross interference in the internal affairs of other states in addition to the introduction of coercive measures in an attempt to subjugate themselves in line with the policy of spreading hegemony over the whole world,” the message says.
The ministry also stressed that Syria rejects the approach that the United States has chosen in international relations and supports Russia and its measures that the country is taking to preserve national security, stability in the world and protect itself from threats that have arisen due to the “reckless US policy” …
On April 13, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu spoke about the transfer of US and NATO troops to the borders of the European part of Russia. It was reported that the main combat potential is concentrated in the Black Sea region and the Baltic, US forces are being strengthened in Poland and the Baltic countries. Also, the head of the Ministry of Defense said that the United States and its NATO allies are building up naval and land forces in the Arctic.
The next day, the chief of the Belarusian General Staff of the Armed Forces (AF), Major General Viktor Gulevich, announced the continuation of NATO activity near the borders of Belarus and Russia.
On April 15, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Alexander Lukashevich said that the increased frequency of NATO maneuvers near Ukraine was causing concern.
As of April 18, Izvestia sources in the military department stated that foreign reconnaissance planes and drones have sharply intensified flights along the Russian borders in the past two weeks. It was noted that in addition to aircraft from the United States and Great Britain, aircraft from other countries were also seen. Also, foreign intelligence officers expanded the territories of their flights, in addition to the traditional zones – Crimea and the borders with Ukraine and the Baltic, aircraft were found near Kamchatka and Chukotka.
