In 2020, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia revealed more than 9.2 thousand violations in the field of animal protection, the department reports in an official response to State Duma Deputy Vladimir Burmatov following the results of inspections. The document is at the disposal of Izvestia.
On behalf of the head of state, the Prosecutor General’s Office carried out large-scale checks in all regions of the country. Their results indicate the inadequacy of measures taken by the authorities at all levels to protect animals and the implementation of the law “On the Responsible Treatment of Animals.” First Deputy Prosecutor General of Russia Alexander Buksman told the head of the State Duma Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection Vladimir Burmatov in an official reply.
“In total, in 2020, the prosecution authorities suppressed over 9.2 thousand violations of laws in the field of animal protection. According to the demands and decisions of prosecutors, 2 thousand persons were brought to disciplinary and administrative responsibility, 23 criminal cases were initiated, ”the document says.
Among the most frequent crimes in the department named violations in the placement of state orders for the performance of work on the capture of animals. They were identified in Bashkortostan, Crimea, Yakutia, Kuzbass, Kamchatka and Krasnodar regions, Vladimir, Kemerovo, Kurgan, Pskov, Rostov and Sverdlovsk regions, as well as in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
