The Argentine government intends to begin vaccination with the Russian drug Sputnik V early next week. This was announced on Thursday, December 24, by the Prime Minister of Argentina Santiago Cafiero.
He noted that the exact date of vaccination will be determined at the weekend.
“The president is going to hold an online meeting with the heads of regions <...> At the weekend, the exact date for the start of vaccination will be determined, which will begin next week,” Cafiero said in Todo Noticias.
The drug will be delivered to the regions of the country by trucks with refrigerators, since the vaccine retains its properties at a temperature of minus 18 degrees Celsius. Medical workers will be the first to receive the vaccine.
Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said that the fund is considering the possibility of producing a vaccine in Argentina and Brazil.
On the eve of December 23, Argentina registered the Sputnik V Russian vaccine against coronavirus. It is noted that Argentina became the first Latin American country to officially register the Sputnik V vaccine on its territory.
On December 24, the first consignment of Sputnik V, consisting of 300 thousand doses, was delivered to Argentina. Argentine media called the plane with the vaccine “the flight of hope.”
