Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin congratulated the residents of the capital on Defender of the Fatherland Day and thanked the veterans for the peaceful sky overhead. The mayor wrote about this on February 23 on his page on the VKontakte social network.

“I congratulate you on Defender of the Fatherland Day – a holiday of courage, perseverance and patriotism. This year we are celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Moscow, which was the first step towards the Great Victory. Immeasurable gratitude to our veterans for the peaceful sky overhead, ”the mayor said.

He also pointed out that the veterans “set the bar high for the next generations of defenders of the Motherland.” According to Sobyanin, today the military professions are among the most honorable in the country.

In conclusion, the mayor expressed pride in the Russian soldiers and officers.

“I wish you good health, prosperity and peace!” – added Sobyanin.

Fireworks will take place in Moscow on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day. Three venues are planned for the event: Luzhnetskaya Embankment, Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora and VDNKh.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the Russian servicemen and veterans with congratulations. The head of state noted the fighting efficiency of the Armed Forces, thanking all servicemen for the worthy performance of their duty.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu also congratulated servicemen and veterans.
