Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin on Wednesday, July 29, examined the progress of the repair of the Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge and expressed the hope that all work on its restoration will be completed by the end of 2021.
“It was built 80 years ago and has never been overhauled since then, most of its structures are morally and physically outdated. <…> I hope that the work will be completed by the end of next year, “RIA Novosti quotes him.
The specialists started the overhaul of the Bolshoy Kamenny Bridge on 11 July. According to the vice-mayor of Moscow, Petr Biryukov, the bridge, which is one of the symbols of the city, has not been overhauled since its construction in 1938. During this time, cracks appeared on it, granite slabs and seams were destroyed in places, the pillars were dilapidated.
He also stressed that the overhaul will be carried out without completely closing the bridge: traffic will be stopped only in one half, on the other it will be possible to drive in both directions. Previously, this technology was used on the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky Bridge.
