Scientists at Texas A&M University, claiming they have found a way to kill coronavirus in a second using heat, have not made any discovery. This was announced on Wednesday, April 28, by Skoltech professor Konstantin Severinov, commenting on the results of the corresponding study.
“There is no miracle in this discovery. The whole statement contained in this article is that if a solution containing coronavirus is passed through a tube that is heated to 72 degrees, and then the solution is quickly cooled, the virus will lose its infectivity … This is an absolutely expected result, ”he said. Severinov in an interview with RIA Novosti.
He recalled that during heat treatment, the viability of cells and viruses is lost. Also, the professor did not rule out that the result of the study “began to roam the Internet” due to the fact that scientists reported their work to the “office for the promotion” of this university.
In his opinion, now scientists are making various statements, because “this increases their popularity and the chances of getting funding.” At the same time, Severinov stressed that there was no discovery here.
“It (virus. – Ed.) Can also be killed by atomic explosions, sending viral particles into space. This is not a science, this is some kind of hype and it has nothing to do with anything, you can sleep peacefully, wear masks and get vaccinated, ”he added.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Texas specialists have created an experimental setup, which consists of a piece of stainless steel pipe through which a solution containing the coronavirus flows. The pipe is heated to a high temperature, and the virus is only exposed to heat for a few seconds.
As noted in an article in the journal Biotechnology and Bioengineering, if the solution is heated to almost 72 degrees Celsius for 0.5 seconds, then the titer of the virus decreases 100 thousand times. Thus, scientists came to the conclusion that this is quite enough to neutralize the virus and prevent its transmission to humans.
However, they suggested using this method in air conditioning, air purification, ventilation and heating systems.
