Russian figure skater Anna Shcherbakova, who won gold at the World Championships in Stockholm, said that this victory is a great honor for her and an important step in her career.
“I think that the World Championship is still a very important competition, a very important stage. It is a great honor for me to win here. I am very glad, ”said the 16-year-old athlete at a press conference.
According to Shcherbakova, she planned to perform at the World Championships with three quadruple jumps, reports TASS.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t succeed in the quadruple, but next year I will be with my maximum possible content, I will work for it. Quadruples, of course, will be needed at the Olympics. The competition is very high, “Sport-Express quotes Shcherbakova.
“When I was preparing for the World Championships, I thought about performing with three quadruple jumps. The preparation process had its own difficulties, everything had to be changed. When I realized that I could not skate with three quads, I wanted to drop everything and give up. Then I realized that I needed to throw off this maximalism and squeeze everything possible out of the situation, ”said the skater.
The Russian added that although she did not succeed in the quadruple jump, she “fought for every element to the end, it is very valuable.”
“Next year I will do my best to be in maximum shape, but everything will depend on the situation. I will skate with the maximum number, quads are definitely needed, ”said the athlete.
