Seven UK residents who were vaccinated against the coronavirus vaccine by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford have died after developing blood clots, SkyNews reported on April 3, citing the United Kingdom’s Medicines and Medical Devices Agency.
According to the regulator, of the 18.1 million people who received the vaccine, 30 developed blood clots. As of March 24, seven of them have died. An investigation is currently underway to determine if there is a link between vaccinations and blood clots, or if it was a coincidence.
The British regulator has not yet received information about similar cases of blood clots among those vaccinated with the vaccine of the American company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech, which is not used as widely in the country as the drug from AstraZeneca.
As Gazeta.ru reminds, at the end of March, the website of the European medical agency EMA reported that the AstraZeneca vaccine was renamed Vaxzevria.
On the eve of France, two more people died due to thrombosis, which arose after the AstraZeneca vaccination. In total, since the beginning of vaccination in France, 12 cases of thrombosis have been recorded, four of which were fatal.
On March 23, it was reported that a 24-year-old student died in the country. He died, according to local media reports, due to an internal hemorrhage caused by a blood clot.
On March 31, the head of the EMA, Emer Cook, said that they did not see any reason to limit the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine by certain groups of the population. According to her, the decision is based on scientific data.
Amid reports of the risk of thrombosis, the AstraZeneca vaccination campaign was suspended in March by the authorities of several countries. Following the recommendations of the EMA and the World Health Organization, some states have resumed vaccination. In this case, a warning about a possible thrombosis should appear on the drug label.
