Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic welcomed the US intention to increase its presence in the Balkan region after the economic agreement on Kosovo. On September 11, RIA Novosti reported this with reference to the diplomat’s statement.

On Friday, Dacic spoke at the “Remember and Stand by the United States” conference organized to commemorate the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack. According to the diplomat, the agreement concluded in Washington between Belgrade and Pristina became possible with the participation of US President Donald Trump.

“It proves that the American side is one of our key partners in the process of achieving a permanent and sustainable solution to the problem of Kosovo and Metohija,” the head of Serbian diplomacy said. As Dacic added. Belgrade welcomes a greater US presence in the Balkans, as all parties to the treaty strive to create more attractive Western Balkans for life.

Washington remains one of Serbia’s key partners in this matter, the diplomat emphasized.

This week, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Prime Minister of unrecognized Kosovo Avdulah Hoti expressed their hope that the agreement signed in Washington will make a useful contribution to achieving normalization of relations.

In early September, the parties signed an agreement on economic cooperation mediated by Trump. According to Vucic, the negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina will continue in Brussels.
