Resident of Angarsk sentenced for repeated drunk driving

A court in Angarsk sentenced a 33-year-old resident of the Irkutsk region, who was re-detained for driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison, according to the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the region and the Angarsk City Court.

It was established that in May 2020, the driver of the Nissan AD on the federal highway R-255 “Siberia” lost control and caused an accident. The arrived traffic police officers found out that the man was drunk, while he refused to undergo a medical examination, writes IA IrkutskMedia.

The driver is known to have been prosecuted three times for drunk driving in the past few years.

Based on the cumulative sentences, the court sentenced him to 4.5 years of imprisonment in a general regime colony. For two years after that, he is prohibited from driving.

On April 15, it was reported that the Russian government is proposing to increase the maximum prison sentence to three years for systematic drunk driving. In addition, the document provides for an increase in additional punishment.
