Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian figure skaters Anna Shcherbakova, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva and Alexandra Trusova on their victory at the World Championships in Stockholm. The telegram of the head of state was published on the Kremlin website.
“For the first time in history, the entire podium in women’s figure skating is for Russia! You have demonstrated your talent and a high level of training, you have completed complex and beautiful programs with dignity, ”reads the text of the telegram.
The President also expressed confidence that this success, based on many years of training and the work of mentors, will become “another triumphant page in the annals of national sports, a solid foundation on the way to the upcoming Olympic Games.”
Separately, Putin noted the performance of Shcherbakova, who won first place. The head of state wished the athletes new achievements and prosperity.
For the first time in history, the Russians occupied the entire podium of the World Cup. Anna Shcherbakova became the winner in the free program, Elizaveta Tuktamysheva took silver, and Alexandra Trusova took bronze.
For Shcherbakova and Trusova, it was their debut world championship. Tuktamysheva became the world champion in 2015.
16-year-old Shcherbakova, speaking about her victory, said that this is a great honor for her and an important step in her career.
