The head of the Federation Council commission on information policy and interaction with the media, Aleksey Pushkov, said that the Ukrainian authorities do not have independence in shaping their foreign policy. He expressed this opinion, commenting on the words of the head of the Ukrainian delegation Leonid Kravchuk in the Trilateral Contact Group that Kiev will form its opinion on Donbass after the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden.
“Ukraine does not and cannot have an independent foreign policy, like sovereignty: historically, this territory has always looked for external patrons and depended on someone – from Russia, Sweden, Poland, Austria-Hungary, Germany,” the senator wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to him, no matter how many people in Kiev come up with a “great” story, in fact in the ruling circles of Ukraine there are only people looking for patrons and financial donors.
“The absence of historical statehood is difficult to overcome: for 30 years of formally independent existence, Ukraine has not overcome it. Hence the current unambiguous dependence on the West and, above all, on the United States as the only possible form of existence for modern Ukraine,” Pushkov added.
