Federation Council member Alexei Pushkov on Sunday, February 14, commented on the acquittal by the American Senate of former US leader Donald Trump at the impeachment process. According to him, such a decision was expected.

“The hysteria staged by the Democrats, fake tears and edited phrases of Trump – in order to prove his guilt in the storming of the Capitol – did not help: the balance of power in the Senate is not such that impeachment could pass,” Pushkov wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to the senator, the impeachment process was organized to weaken Trump as the leader of the Republicans.

Pushkov noted that as claims accumulate against the administration of the current US leader Joe Biden, the story with Trump will be forgotten. And the latter “may have a chance for revenge.”

During a meeting on February 13, the US Senate acquitted former President Donald Trump as part of an impeachment procedure. 57 senators voted for acquittal, 43 spoke in favor of condemning. Thus, the impeachment did not receive the required two-thirds of the votes.

The impeachment process began on February 9. Trump’s lawyers called the trial against him an unconstitutional political theater for the Democrats and called on the Senate to justify the policy. In response, prosecutors from the House of Representatives of the Congress said that Trump on the day of the riots at the Capitol deliberately incited his supporters to mutiny, because of which he should be convicted as part of the impeachment process.
