In 2021, Russia is planning a large-scale civil defense exercise under the leadership of President Vladimir Putin. This was announced on Friday, October 2, at the press service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.

On this day, civil defense training takes place throughout the country with the notification of the population. Emergencies Minister Yevgeny Zinchev noted that the main purpose of the exercises is to check the readiness of command and control bodies and forces to act as intended. During the training, the issues of alerting and informing the population about the procedure for various threats to air raid, chemical alarm, radiation hazard, the threat of catastrophic flooding and other hazards are being worked out.

According to the head of the department, next year the country will host larger exercises.

“Today’s training is preparation for large-scale exercises led by Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2021,” Zinchev said.

The minister also drew attention to the fact that modern threats demanded changes to the existing normative legal documents in the field of civil defense. In view of these changes, the civil defense and population protection plans of all levels for the period 2021-2025 are being revised.

The all-Russian civil defense training began with the regions of the Far East, each practicing actions in those emergency situations that are typical for a given area. Citizens were warned about the inclusion of emergency warning systems as part of the exercise.
